Last night, driving home from a girl’s night of wine and food and laughter, my radio somehow ended up on Delilah. I’m not usually a fan of such sappiness, but as I turned onto my road an older woman called in. She spoke of the man she met 43 years ago, the man she married a couple of years later. You could hear the love in her voice, as she spoke of their life together, the things they have seen and done, and how much she still adored him now, four decades later. It circled the question I’ve been asking the skies for ages. Can love last?



When it’s so very new, the smallest things feel like grand gestures. A hand held, a wink in your direction. A kiss that lasts so long, your toes curl and you wonder where it will lead. Then it gets a little more real. Life steps in, we are asked to show our true colors. Sometimes they are vibrant and beautiful, other times they are dark and dreary. We look to outside influences, seeking justification for ourselves or our partner in this game of chance called love. We make excuses, eternal optimism showing its face as we place our faith in the one we want to love. The circle ensues, and happiness makes an appearance again just when you think it left for good. We trust and let our heart lead our head, and so we keep on keeping on…




What happens when our head leads our heart? What if, with our wealth of experience, both blissful and heartbreaking, we let the past dictate our future? I don’t mean following a pattern, but intentionally setting one. Consider it self-preservation, if you will. Expecting and preparing for love to fail and companionship to last. Does a lack of faith in love mean that you are doomed to live without it? Is that part of the secret we were never let in on?




Is it possible for love to return, un-beckoned but there because it was always there to begin with, just buried in the background of life and circumstance? Perhaps love wasn’t there to begin with, but simply a mirage that led us to water after crawling through the sands of loneliness or fear.




Do we get another chance after this? Do we keep on traveling until we get it right? What do you think?

Three of the four elements are shared by all creatures, but fire was a gift to humans alone. Smoking cigarettes is as intimate as we can become with fire without immediate excruciation. Every smoker is an embodiment of Prometheus, stealing fire from the gods and bringing it on back home. We smoke to capture the power of the sun, to pacify Hell, to identify with the primordial spark, to feed on the marrow of the volcano. It's not the tobacco we're after but the fire. When we smoke, we are performing a version of the fire dance, a ritual as ancient as lightning.
Does that mean that chain smokers are religious fanatics? You must admit there's a similarity.
The lung of the smoker is a naked virgin thrown as a sacrifice into the godfire.

Anything outdoors during the day, bars sometimes...seldom if possible, but I like the nights for me and my other...movies and cheese abd wine. Or hell beer and jerky. I love having friends over, I would chose a house party over a bar anyday, and I absolutely love to show my girl off, so anyway I can do that I would love.
