How would my friends describe me? The compilation of the answers to that question is: highly intelligent, quick-witted, fiercely loyal, extremely caring though often guarded, very generous, detail-oriented, snippy when extremely nervous and intolerant of stupidity and laziness. One person replied, “As the most amazing book you will ever read, as long as you take a chance to look beyond the cover.”
So how would I describe me?
I'm a Midwest transplant who moved to San Antonio for a better job and to be near family. I got the job, and the family has grown and grown up. I'm thankful for both. After 13 years, I think it's time for my life to include more. I don’t drink coffee, but I love the smell of coffee as it holds many wonderful associations. Most coffee places have other things on their menus so the whole “coffee and conversation” thing is actually fine with me. I enjoy reading, with a leaning toward fiction in particular. Some of my choices in literature might seem overly youthful at first, but considering the number of nieces and nephews I have, it helps me find common ground with them. I like many type of movies (but not as a “first date” because the only thing you are assured of learning about each other is popcorn preference). I love watching NFL football, college basketball, musicals, marching band and Star Trek in all its forms. I like cooking and baking especially if someone else is going to partake of my efforts. I’m a carnivore. Ok, technically, I’m an omnivore because I do eat from all the food groups. I'm no athlete. It’s not that I mind hard work or activities that work up a sweat, but I was just never encouraged to play sports beyond what was required to pass gym class. I count bowling or walking a 5K as sports participation. I’ve been working back up to exercising every day. I’ve spent many a weekend on home improvement projects, and sometimes I branch off into what could best be described as crafts. I hate yard work. However, since I’ve never seen a lawn service ad that emphasized use of non-polluting mowers and weed eaters, I do it myself. At least it constitutes more aerobic activity. I enjoy seeing new places and find travel by plane less exhausting than by car. Someday I would like to take a train trip that involved sleeping and dining cars. I have a favorite “go to” place—the White Mountains and am excited about spending many trips exploring all they have to offer. Also, I’m not sure it is possible to ever get tired of Disney World.
I'm looking for a woman who shares some common interests, but is willing to share new experiences as well. She needs to understand that having a history isn’t the same as having baggage. Our past experiences help shape us into who we are. She will share where her “buttons” are so I can avoid pushing them and take note when I share what mine are. Caring, compassion, sensitivity, confidence, integrity, devotion, and a strong capacity for understanding are all important to me, but the right woman for me tempers all that with an ability to find the humor in difficult situations. There are some weeks with two Mondays in them, and humor is the best way to deal with those weeks. While some people might know instantly that they were meant for each other, I think it takes more time. I might find a woman interesting from the get-go, but it takes time to really get to know each other and develop a depth of feeling. I’m attracted to women who fall between whole-heartedly femme and sporty femme or perhaps what I would describe as “barely butch.”
As to what I look like, it really depends on the occasion. I haven't worn a dress since moving to TX, but I have been known to pull out the makeup brushes from time to time. I like dressing up, but I never liked being trussed up like a Thanksgiving turkey the way the whole skirt/dress, hose and heels thing made me feel. I work in a casual environment so I might be considered "sporty."

An ideal first date would be to meet somewhere comfortable to sit and talk face to face where we don't have to shout to be heard but where we can talk without concern about what others might hear. We might share a snack and that we would forget how much time had passed until the place was ready to close and kicked us out. We'd stand in the parking lot not wanting to part and set the time and place for our next meeting and it would be as soon as our schedules would allow.

Well, I've always wanted to go to Space Camp and they do have a camp for adults, but I'm not sure they intend it for adults my age.
